Fellowship Baptist Church celebrated its 10th anniversary in August of 2003 and to recognize that occasion, a large quilt depicting the church against the mountains and a family quilt were made by members of the church family. They still hang in our fellowship hall. Many were inspired by these quilts and made the request to learn how to quilt. So, the following February in 2004, the first quilt meeting was held. At that time, we called ourselves the 5th Friday quilters, since we met during the months that had a 5th Friday. We soon discovered that this was not enough and decided to meet every month on the last Friday of the month. With that, we changed our name to Pieceful Piecers, a suggestion by one of our charter members, Donna Weikert. Our first project was a sampler quilt teaching techniques and traditional block patterns. These wall hangings were displayed at our first quilt show, in August of 2005. Since then, we have completed a variety of projects of various sizes, styles and quilting techniques. Our group not only makes projects to learn new techniques but also outreach quilts. We have made baby quilts for all our new mothers, and prayer quilts for those experiencing difficulties, and recently a small wall hanging was donated to the maternity unit of Gettysburg Hospital in memory of an infant that was born to one of the families of our church and then later died of congenital complications. The group still meets on the 4th Friday of each month at 7pm.
